Entitled 20-year-old roommate steals both pet slots on apartment lease by randomly bringing a dog home before her roommate and "best friend" could adopt: 'She's not your friend'

We're just going to come out and say it: living with your best friend is almost never a good idea. It seems like a good idea, but you learn a lot of things about someone when you start to live with them. Most of those things you will probably wish you had never learned.

The potential for disaster is just too high to risk it, in our opinion. And yet, people take the risk all the time, like the two roommates below. The two 20-year-old best friends moved in together in an apartment that had a 2-pet limit, and one of them already had a 3-year-old cat. Now, our main character here has been jonesing for a doggo for a long time. The cat owner constantly shot her down, saying things like "there's not enough space", etc. 

Then, she flips the script and decides she wants a dog, so it's okay. Oh, great! Sounds like our friend can get the dog she always wanted, right? Wrong! The "best friend" goes out and adopts a dog of her own, meaning that the apartment now has two pets, and none of them belong to our favorite roommate below.

Not only is it selfish, but it's not something a best friend would do. Not something any of our best friends would do, anyway. Read through the whole roommate/pet/best friend drama below!

  • Well, that statement entirely depends on the doggo! Huskies, Rottweilers, and any sort of working dog breed will need good amount of space, or lots of physical activity to manage their energy levels. But, if you got a small dog, or some that are pupticularly lazy, an apartment wouldn't be a problem at all!

    CrazyFoxLady37 Oh gosh. This is a bad beginning and I'm sorry OP. Being roommates with your best friend almost never works out tbh (not working for me. We are so not close anymore, and yes, part of it is pet drama). That's really annoying, though.

  • It's low-key shady to pull this kind of stunt. What did she think would be the outcome? Maybe she didn't think about it at all (which is a problem in and of itself), but either way, it's worth having the tough conversation if they want to save their friendship in any way.

    Comfortable-Fly5797 Did she get landlord approval? Most rentals require approval before bringing a pet home. Especially dogs since there tend to be a lot of restrictions.

    jazbaby25 Sorry they did that to you. They say to never be roommates with friends especially best friends because it'll ruin your relationship. She took a step further. When the lease ends, dont renew, give the property management proper notice within the time frame typically outlined in your lease of non renewal and leave.

    Find out what to do when you're not renewing your lease with the property so that you know what to do. There is usually a checklist. Start looking for a new place and new roommates now. Leaving in good standing with your property will help when you're applying to new places.
